Sheffield Township is seeking a detail-oriented, fair, and professional Zoning Inspector to help guide our growth and ensure compliance with local land-use regulations.

In this role, you won’t just be "enforcing rules"—you will be a key point of contact for residents and developers, helping them navigate the process of building and improving our township.

Key Responsibilities

  • Permit Administration: Review and process applications for zoning certificates, sign permits, and conditional use permits.

  • Site Inspections: Conduct field inspections to ensure new construction and property uses align with approved plans and township resolutions.

  • Code Enforcement: Investigate complaints regarding zoning violations and work with property owners to achieve voluntary compliance.

  • Public Liaison: Provide clear, helpful information to the public, Board of Trustees, and Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA).

  • Record Keeping: Maintain organized digital and physical records of all permits, inspections, and correspondence.

Qualifications We’re Looking For

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with zoning laws, land-use planning, or construction standards (preferred).

  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills; ability to explain complex regulations in a "customer-friendly" manner.

  • Conflict Resolution: A calm, professional demeanor when handling sensitive enforcement issues.

  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn permit tracking software.

  • Reliability: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required for field inspections.

Pay is commensurate with experience.
